The History of the Indian day

We celebrated every year on April 19, the day of the Indian.
This commemorative day was created in 1943 by President Getulio Vargas, by the Decree Law No. 5.540.Mas chosen because it was April 19th?

                                               SOURCE OF DATA

To understand the data, we must go back to 1940. This year was realisado in Mexico, the 1st Inter-American Indigenous Congress. Besides counting with the participation of various government authorities of the countries of America, several indigenous leaders of this continent were invited to attend the meetings and decisions. But the Indians did not attend the first day of the event as estvam worried and fearful. This behavior was understandable, because the Indians for centuries were being harassed, attacked and decimated by the "White Men."
However, after some meetings and reflections, many indigenous leaders decided to participate, after understanding the importance of that historical moment. This participation took place on April 19 which was then chosen in the Americas as the day of the Indian

                                                 CELEBRATIONS AND IMPORTANCE OF DATA

In this day of the year there were several events dedicated to Indian culture of our country already inhabited when the Portuguese arrived here in 1500. This process happens because the exploitation of natural resources, many indigenous peoples are losing their land.
